For customers that require long, linear, welds Collins Machine Works utilizes semi-automated welding track system in order to make repairs quickly and efficiently. If weld build-up and repair is needed our welding team works in conjunction with our on-site machining operations to provide milling and grinding turnkey service.
In order to maintain dimensional stability as well as remove unwanted stresses and hardness customers may require welded fabrications to be stress relieved post production. To meet these needs Collins Machine Works makes use of comprehensive portable stress relieving systems which include computer controlled heating units, thermocouple sensors, and chart recorders. Our capabilities and experience extend from small pieces weighing only a few hundred pounds to sixty foot long, 100,000 pound marine shafting.
Severely worn or damaged components may require weld deposits to “build-up” or replace the base metal. After this process is complete we can finish machine the component and return it to its original condition. Collins machine works has mutltiple qualified weld procedures in this process, encompassing everything from mild steel to superalloys such as inconel 625.
For the steel producing industry we have developed a process for the repair of worn conveyor rollers. This process, which includes weld buildup of the base metal with mild steel followed up with an outside layer of hardened steel has shown to greatly decrease the MTBF of this equipment.
For weld repairs inside of a bore, Collins Machine Works utilizes on-site bore welding machines that use an automatic spiral welding technique. This allows us to deposit a bead of weld 360 degrees around the inside diameter of the bore. Utilizing at MIG or Flux Core welding process we can perform repairs to bores in a variety of sizes.
