When you think of a gearbox, the first thing you think of is most likely your car’s transmission, a piece of machinery that takes energy from a rotational power source and converts it into speed and torque through gears and gear trains. This piece of machinery allows your car to shift through the different outputs of power needed to speed up, slow down, and take on inclines.
A transmission is a common gearbox, but when Collins Machine Works thinks of a gearbox, we think of something a little bit bigger. 30 tons bigger to be precise. So when we got a call to assist in rebuilding a Renk gear box from one of our clients, we were nothing but excited.
After receiving the gear box, our team immediately began disassembly in order to inspect the various pieces to identify the problem. Following the client and tech rep instructions, our team discovered that a bearing had failed in the planetary gears of the box, and made a report of this to the client. Once the issue had been repaired our team reassembled the massive gear box and prepared it to be returned to the client ready to be used once again. From the moment the gearbox was dropped off, our team jumped into action completing the process of disassembly, inspection, and reassembly in only 6 days, allowing our client to get back up and into production far faster than they had anticipated.
As with all of our jobs, CMW’s specialized professional team exceeded our client’s expectations and allowed them to cut their downtime and get back to production faster. With a reliable team and streamlined process, CMW transforms even an emergency repair into a success story.
